Scope and Contents

Typescript letter with handwritten signature from Beatrix Farrand to John Thacher reviews subjects Beatrix Farrand and Anne Sweeney discussed on her visit to Bar Harbor, Maine, including the route for Anne Sweeney's Garden Guide tours at Dumbarton Oaks, as well as educational materials needed for her lectures and exhibits. She mentions areas of the garden that should be for the use of those studying or living at Dumbarton Oaks, but suggests in the autumn the Green Garden and Swimming Pool be included in the tour route. Beatrix Farrand encloses a carbon copy of a letter she wrote to James Bryce that discusses in more detail the route Anne Sweeney's tours would take and what areas of the Gardens the tours would avoid. It also specifies what Beatrix thinks Anne may need for her tours, such as additional roses, bulbs, and other specimens and an enlarged work area. The letter to Thacher is signed by Isabelle M. Stover, secretary for Beatrix Farrand.
