Scope and Contents

Typescript letter with handwritten signature from Beatrix Farrand to Mildred Bliss discusses the firm foundation that the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden now stands on because of Mildred Bliss' recent endowment; Max Farrand's continued illness delaying travel; and John Thacher reports an overwhelming number of visitors to Dumbarton Oaks Gardens suggesting the need for paving to offset the wear on the grass walks of the Rose Garden, Herbaceous Border and Fountain Terrace. Beatrix is saying a prayer of "thanks and gratitude" for Mildred Bliss each night. She includes with the letter a newspaper clipping from the Santa Barbara News-Press (Society Section), Sunday Morning, April 15, 1945 of a party held at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.
