Scope and Contents

Copy of typescript letter from Anne Sweeney to Isabelle Stover tells her she has been filling in for Mildred Bliss' securetary, Miss Snow, who fell and broke her right wrist and developed bronchitis. Even though Miss Snow has returned, she can not do anything with her right hand. Anne is not sure how much longer she shall be doing this work. She is sorry Isabelle is a victim of arthritis. She reports in Washington, D.C. every third person has the flu or some sort of cold or grippe. Beatrix Farrand wrote Anne about the $50 that was added to the [Beatrix Farrand] Agent Account for the purchase of prints and books. Anne thinks it would be better for part of the fund to be turned over to her and use as needed rather than having to writen Isabelle each time Anne wants to make a purchase of prints. She says she is never able to tell before hand how much they will cost or what she may be able to get. The Government Agency which has been occupying a large part of the Dumbarton Oaks main building and museum is vacting on February 1st, and plans are being made to get the rooms in condition, os that the art treasures may be restored to their proper places and various departments may expand after being crowded. Anne is supposed to go to the "Underworld" where she shall have no daylight, but more shelf space for books and prints and filing space. The room is more convenient to the garden and the Orangery. It has been difficult for Anne to pack up all those folders from the Catalogue House up the hill to the house and back to the third floor in the elevator.
