Report submitted by Beatrix Farrand to the Chairman of the Dumbarton Oaks Administrative Board, on the Grounds of Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, November 24, 1941 Digital
Scope and Contents
Typescript report with handwritten signature prepared by Beatrix Farrand to the Chairman of the Dumbarton Oaks Administrative Board [Harvard University] on the grounds and gardens of Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection dated November 24, 1941. Beatrix Farrand offers her thoughts on a re-study of grounds management with the transfer of the property from the Blisses to Harvard University. While there is "no intention implied or suggested that the design be kept exactly as it was given to Harvard", all considered alterations should be made after a careful study and how the changes fit into an already established scheme. She outlines the principles that should be taken into account for all changes to consider the characteristics of Dumbarton Oaks, the trees, the flowers, replacement of plants, use of greenhouses, the start of a plant record book, and the use of grounds by guided groups.
