Scope and Contents

Typescript letter with handwritten signature from Glanville Downey to Robert Woods Bliss and Mildred Bliss informing them that he and his family are very comfortably settled in Princeton, and they look forward to a pleasant year. They will miss Washington [D.C.] and Dumbarton Oaks. They are living in a furnished apartment provided by the Institute which is quite adequate and with a few minutes walk of the Institute buildings where Glanville has been given an excellent study. He reports there is a good library of basic texts and reference works in the Institute, and he has everything else he needs in the Theological Seminary Library and the University Library. His childred are in the local public school which is much better than the public schools in Maryland. He judges that it in part due to the fact that the parents in Princeton take much more active interest in them. IN September he and his wife took the children to New York for their first visit, including the boat ride around Manhattan, which happened to be on the day before the boat collided with the bridge. He imagines that Dumbarton Oaks will be having a very lively and prosperous year, and he looks forward to seeing all of the family in the Spring at the symposium. He and his wife send their greetings.
