Scope and Contents

Handwritten note and questions on graph paper from Ruth Havey to Mildred Bliss. Havey asks Mildred to add the answers to questions on projects and mail back to her. List of items to ask Mrs. Bliss include materials, cost, and planning details for rebuilding the arbor; the estimate for the console at the North Court wall at house; gate finials in the North Vista; Wall capping with moulding edge in the North Vista; Doria benches in the North Vista finished as is; New Doria bench in the East Lawn; Metal reinforcement for one existing marble bench on the Orangery terrace; repair of swimming pool stone gutter; painting of letters on Mrs. Farrand's tablet in the Green Garden; moulding edge of Box Terrace tablet. She requests a meeting with Mrs. Bliss to discuss construction of balustrade and paving in Arbor Terrace. Correspondence includes small sketch of arbor in the Arbor Terrace. Handwritten notations added on final page probably by Mildred Bliss. A cost estimate for arbor construction is due from Everett Lank of Lank Woodworking Co., Washington, D.C. Contract will be based on enclosed drawings of the existing arbor. Lank Woodworking Co. was recommended by Mr. Harris Collingwood, forester, Library of Congress, Mr. Gerald Prange, National Lumber Manufacturers' Association, and Mr. Martin Wiegand of Wiegand Lumber Co., Washington, D.C.
