Scope and Contents

Consists of copies and drafts of talks and lectures given by Mary Ellen Avery at conferences, commencements, classes, and other events and programs, as well as related notes, reprints, correspondence, agendas, presentation materials, course materials, and newspaper clippings. Contains notes and drafts for speeches Avery gave at universities, hospitals, symposiums, and conferences, as well as materials collected by Avery at lectures she attended. Series includes Avery's presentation materials for conferences held by: the National Heart, Blood, and Lung Institute; the International Congress of Pediatrics; the Institute of Medicine; and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Course materials consist of syllabi and case studies for Avery's work as a guest lecturer on topics such as hyaline membrane disease (or respiratory distress syndrome), newborn infant care, tuberculosis, pulmonary , and cortisone. Note that there are some additional drafts of speeches by Avery filed in Series VI. Writings.
