Scope and Contents

This series records Hubel’s active involvement in professional association meetings, conferences, symposia, guest lectureships, interviews, and ceremonies for honorary degrees and awards. Includes copies of presentations, conference programs and abstracts, registration packages, handouts and proceedings. Some files also contain routine correspondence, financial records, photographs and travel itineraries. Event topics include Hubel’s Nobel lecture, congressional testimony and rounds at local hospitals. Professional associations include the National Institutes of Health, Society for Neuroscience and the American Physiological Society. Few records document Hubel’s involvement in Harvard Medical School departmental, administrative and committee meetings. Related video recordings of some events are filed in Series V.

Conditions Governing Access

Collection is open for research. Access requires advance notice. Access to personal and patient information is restricted for 80 years from the date of creation. These restrictions appear in Series VI and Series XII. Researchers may apply for access to restricted records. Consult Public Services for further information.

The David H. Hubel Papers are stored offsite except for box 48 which is housed in the Center for the History of Medicine's stacks. and one flat file folder in XL005. Researchers are advised to consult Public Services for further information concerning retrieval of material.
