Levi Wooster Humphrey physician's log book
Content Description
Log book of Levi W. Humphrey, of Southwick, Massachusetts, containing entries dated between 1822 and 1829 reflecting his practice and bookkeeping as a rural physician. Includes records of visits paid and medicines given, as well as particular medical services rendered, such as tooth extractions, vaccinations, and attendance at parturition (childbirth), and records of payments (cash or goods). Some opposite pages of the book are pasted over with printed engravings cut out from other sources; some of these have been hand colored. Also includes some notes unrelated to medical practice.

Levi Wooster Humphrey (1792-1850) was a physician in Southwick, Massachusetts.
Levi Wooster Humphrey was born to Levi and Loraine Humphrey in 1792 in Simsbury, Connecticut. He practiced medicine in Southwick, Massachusetts, which is about 15 miles from Simsbury.
He married Mary Fowler in 1820. After her death in 1826, he married Betsey Stiles.

Inside of front cover is inscribed with the following:
The letters of the alphabet in script] This book belongs to Dr. Levi W. Humphrey, Southwick, Mass. His wife was Betsy Stiles "One of the branches" She was born in 1802- and married "said Doctor" in 1829- This is the property of Rebecca Vernon Stiles Walker-Daughter of Edmund Holcombe Stiles This was brought to Tuscon by a man from Mass-+given to Ed. in 1930.
There are also several penciled notes, including the name "Wilkinson."
