Scope and Contents
Manuscript address delivered by Spalding at the inauguration of Fairfield Medical College that includes discussion of the factors that contribute to disease, which he believes include "Climate, luxury, idleness, dress, [and] occupation." Spalding further comments on the history of physicians from the time of Hippocrates, and the practices he believes modern physicians should follow, such as devoting at least eight hours a day to study and maintaining case books.
