Scope and Contents

Consists of manuscript drafts and related publication correspondence for Man, Mind and Medicine, The Doctor’s Education: A Chairman’s View of the Swampscott Study on Behavioral Science in Medicine (1968), conference-planning correspondence, and reports, generated and compiled by Oliver Cope during his service as Chairman of the Swampscott Study on Behavioral Science in Medicine. Publication correspondence includes: correspondence of Cope with J.B. Lippincott Company and the Carnegie Corporation concerning Man, Mind and Medicine; conference participants’ comments and suggestions for the draft of Man, Mind and Medicine; and press releases for the book’s release. Reports include participants’ summarized observations on medical education after small-group discussions at the conference. Subseries also contains: lists of conference participants; steering committee meeting notes; Man, Mind and Medicine galley proofs; and photographs of Cope, Jerrold Zacharias, and a Dr. Bond, for publication with the book.
