Historical Note

By 1915, admission to Harvard Medical School typically required course work in the sciences as well as an academic degree. More information: President's report, 1914-1915. Although courses were offered to practitioners as early as 1888-1889 in the summer school, post-graduate education was not formalized until the establishment of the Graduate School of Medicine in 1912.
