Historical Note

When the Longwood Avenue campus opened, Gordon Hall (Building A) contained a reading room for students and Buildings B, C, D, and E each housed separate departmental libraries. In 1913 the Medical School created a centralized collection by transferring most of the departmental libraries to three rooms on the first floor of Gordon Hall (Building A). With the founding of the School of Public Health more space was needed, and by 1928 the library had moved upstairs where it occupied the entire second floor of the building.
