Scope and Contents
Series III contains correspondence, research data, statistics, and photographs resulting from JCA's industrial hygiene, cancer, lead, and beryllium research conducted at MGH. The corporate industrial response to JCA’s research is found in lead litigation and beryllium toxicity correspondence and research notes (see also Series I). JCA’s records from his involvement in the medical treatment of survivors of the Cocoanut Grove Fire in 1942 are contained in autopsy results and reports illustrating his findings relevant to the victims’ exposure to toxic fumes in the nightclub. JCA's oral history in Series I also documents his involvement in the treatment of Cocoanut Grove Fire victims. Correspondence with Manfred Bowditch, a Massachusetts industrial health authority (see also Series IV) also mentions JCA’s research on lead.
