7 boxesThis collection contains meeting minutes, reports, and financial information for various Unitarian Universalist districts, UUA Board of Trustees, and the Iowa Unitarian Association; correspondence, in particular letters between Davidson and Waitstill Sharp in the 1960’s; there are also two folders labeled “Sermons,” which do not exclusively contain sermons but also include magazine clippings and reports. Davidson had categorized all these papers under the heading “Sermons,” so we have kept them together and labeled as such. This collection is arranged in reverse chronological order, as Davidson kept his records.
Biographical / Historical
Charles Davidson (1918-2011) was born on August 24, 1918 in Salem, Ohio. He completed a B.S. from Ohio State University in 1947, after serving in the U.S. Army from 1940-1946. He then went on to earn a J.D. from the Ohio State University Law School in 1949. While he spent a majority of his professional life working at the University Of Iowa School Of Law, Davidson was very active in the Unitarian Universalist Church. Davidson served in leadership positions in the Iowa Unitarian Association, and was elected President of the Prairie Star Unitarian Universalist Association after the Unitarian Universalist merger. In addition to these positions, he also spent time as a member of the Unitarian Universalist Board of Trustees. He died on August 29, 2011 at the age of 93
