Biographical / Historical
Joshua Augustus Swan (1823-1871) was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard College in 1846 and from Harvard Divinity School in 1849. He was ordained in Kennebunk, Maine, shortly after his graduation from Harvard Divinity School and served there until his retirement in 1869. In 1851 he married Miss Sarah Hodges, the daughter of the Rev. Richard Manning Hodges (see bMS 65).
