The first sermon is 32 pages long and is based on “Math:11-29. Learn of me for I am meek & lowly in heart: and ye shall find Rest unto your Souls.” There is an inscription at the end of the sermon in a different hand which states that it is a “Sermon of the Rev. Mr. Fairfield, first minister of Saco, Maine – presented by W. Cushing to the Library of the Theological School in Cambridge.” Rev. Fairfield made a note at the end of the sermon that states it was preached at Pepperellborough in 1785. There are further notes as to where it was preached in 1794 and 1797.
