Correspondents include Hosea Starr Ballou, Georgene Bowen, Alfred S. Cole, Richard Eddy, Dana McLean Greeley, Kenneth L. Patton, Elmo Robinson, Thomas J. Sawyer, and John Van Schaick.

Biographical / Historical

The Universalist Historical Society was founded in 1834 to collect and preserve manuscripts, books, and printed material related to the subject and denomination of Universalism, and to promote publication on the same subject. Its headquarters were in Boston. The Society's library was housed at Tufts College from 1869 until 1976 when it was given to the Andover-Harvard Theological Library, (later called Harvard Divinity School Library). The Society itself was consolidated with the Unitarian Historical Society in 1978 to form the Unitarian Universalist Historical Society.

Placed on permanent deposit by the Universalist Historical Society, 1976. Treasurer's records, 1968-1978, were gift of Unitarian Universalist Historical Society, 1983.

Special Collections at Harvard Divinity School Library preserves and makes accessible primary source materials documenting the history of religion and theology, with particular historical emphasis on American liberal religious traditions. Though the historical strengths of the collections have been in the field of Christianity, other religious traditions are increasingly reflected, in step with Harvard Divinity School's evolving focus on global religious studies. Known as Andover-Harvard Theological Library since 1911, it was renamed the Harvard Divinity School Library in 2021.
