The Third Religious Society in Dorchester was organized in 1813. It was previously known under the names The Proprietors of the New South Meeting-House, The New South, Dorchester New South Meeting House, Dorchester South Church, and finally The Third Religious Society in Dorchester and The Third Church in Dorchester. The church building was completed on October 6, 1813 and dedicated by the Boston Association of Ministers with Dr. Lathrop preaching.
