Harvard Divinity School Faculty Writings Files, 1817-1997

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of writings by and about more than 100 Harvard Divinity School faculty members. These writings were previously maintained as a vertical file and were cataloged under the call number H.D.S. V.F. The writings here were not systematically collected, and the collection is not comprehensive. They are arranged alphabetically according to the last name of each faculty member. Some faculty members have several boxes of material, while others have only a single file. Materials include biographical information, offprints of journal articles, news clippings, bibliographies, curricula vitae, copies of lectures, retirement notices, book reviews, and memorial service programs.

Special Collections at Harvard Divinity School Library preserves and makes accessible primary source materials documenting the history of religion and theology, with particular historical emphasis on American liberal religious traditions. Though the historical strengths of the collections have been in the field of Christianity, other religious traditions are increasingly reflected, in step with Harvard Divinity School's evolving focus on global religious studies. Known as Andover-Harvard Theological Library since 1911, it was renamed the Harvard Divinity School Library in 2021.
