In 1871 Edward P. Bassett, Calvin Cone, Peter H. Bateson, Francis E. Abbott, and H. E. Howe associated themselves for the purpose of publishing books, pamphlets, and other publications, plus a weekly paper to be called The Index to be devoted to free religion.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
This volume was donated to Harvard University by the Rev. Donald Szantho Harrington. It was given to him by Fanny Abbot Wells (1872-1964), the daughter of Francis Ellingwood Abbott.
