Wet process, curves 1955 Digital

Scope and Contents:

These are mostly photographic enlargements made from Adams' negatives, made with the "wet process." Included with the materials is a Polaroid Research Laboratories curve graph, so it is possible that these enlargements were made by the Polaroid labs. Many of these have the same portrait of a young girl as a subject. There are also negatives.

Scope and Contents:

Memorandum #347 "Hasselblad information and folder" and #396 "95A adaptation to Hasselblad," along with Hasselblad brochures, instruction pamphlets and a film holder accessory. Adams appears to have been exploring the possibility of using a Polaroid back with a Hasselblad camera.

They also include photographs of boats and an unidentified man taken in Marin County, gray scale tests, cemetery statuary, and another unidentified portrait.

The black and white test photographs include portraits of photographers Herbert Forgash, Minor White, and Imogen Cunningham with Nancy Newhall, and separately, Bill and Harriet Gratwick. There are also photographs of steepled architecture, an electrician and a phone technician.

Exposure records only for the correspondence. Adams mentions testing Type 520 and 530 film. The black and white test photographs notably include a portrait of painter Georgia O'Keefe and of animal skulls in her New Mexico home, portraits of photographer Laura Gilpin in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and landscapes taken in Death Valley National Park and in Arizona.

Internal Polaroid memoranda about testing 4x5 packs and pack holders along with Adams' memoranda on the subject. Photocopy of memorandum #399. Some of these black and white test photographs and transparencies were taken with the Polaroid adaptor back for a Hasselblad camera and depict a home interior, several unidentified portraits and architecture. Other black and white test photographs include images of oak trees, portraits of Mr. Roosevelt and gray scale tests. The black and white transparencies are portraits of an unidentified woman.
