The collection consists of classroom records, student papers, notes, exams, and student life memorabilia collected by Schmidt as a student at Harvard Business School, 1931-1933 and as an alum. There are also HBS reports, alumni bulletins, and pamphlets. Included is a set of print materials which consist of short papers on a variety of business topics such as government policies and banking.

Biographical / Historical

Carl Oscar Schmidt Jr. was born April 6, 1909. He graduated from University of Cincinnati in 1931 with a master’s degree in engineering. He went Harvard Business School and graduated in 1933. Schmidt returned to his home town of Cincinnati to work for his family’s business, Cincinnati Butchers’ Supply Company where in 1972 he was promoted to vice-president. Schmidt remained active as a HBS alumnus acting as secretary for the Cincinnati branch of the HBS Club during the 1940s. He passed away on December 22, 1993 at the age of 84.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged into four series: Student materials, Alumni materials, HBS Alumni Association Bulletins, and Print materials. Duplicate materials were separated from the collection.

The Carl Oscar Schmidt papers (A-00-19) were received by Baker Library Special Collections as a donation from Christoph Schmidt in 1999.
