Dun and Bradstreet archives and manuscript library collection
Scope and Contents
The Dun and Bradstreet archives and manuscript library collection is an artificial collection compiled by the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation business library. The collection consists of business records, legal records, personal papers, and newspapers compiled from various companies, individuals, and legislative bodies across the United States, spanning from 1767 to 1950. Materials heavily represent the New York and New Jersey region. Business records, which contain the bulk of the collection, consist of invoices, bills, orders, accounts, and correspondence. Invoices, which are particularly represented, detail the purchase and sale of provisions and freight transportation. Legal records, which are sparse, consist of deeds, land records, court records, and writs. Some personal correspondence is present. The bulk of collection dates from the early to late 1800s. Subject matter is diverse, including routine business operations, debt collections, lines of credit, transportation, and property. Also included are files of various company histories and illustrated prints and photostats of locations around the world.
