1.25 linear feet (3 boxes)Papers include Windsor Arnold Hosmer's professional correspondence (1948-1960) with contacts at companies and other academics, arranged alphabetically; manuscripts (1955-1958 and undated), both original and carbon copy, of Hosmer’s papers and of an incomplete book on small manufacturing companies: Present and Potential Opportunities for Very Small Manufacturing Companies, and business records (1954-1962) from the Hosmer Machine & Lumber Company, Contoocook, N.H. (mostly patent papers) and the Richard D. Brew & Company, Concord, N.H., where Hosmer was Chairman of the Board.
Biographical / Historical
Windsor Arnold Hosmer was a Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. Hosmer received his AB from Harvard College in 1918. He served in the US military during World War I, after which he received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1921. He was appointed an Instructor in Business Policy from 1921 to 1923. He was appointed as the Yates Professor Economics at Hobart College from 1923-1931. In 1931 he returned to Harvard Business School and stayed until his retirement in 1961. He was a Lecturer of Accounting from 1931 to 1932. From 1932 to 1937 Hosmer was an Associate Professor of Accounting, and from 1937-1949. Then from 1949 to 1961 he served as Professor as Business Administration. In 1958, Hosmer started the course called Small Manufacturing Enterprises. Outside of academia Hosmer was the president and CEO of the Hosmer Machine Company from 1956 to 1968. He died on December 3, 1968.
