Edward Echtman papers

The Edward Echtman papers consist of correspondence, documents, speeches, pamphlets, and printed material related to in industrialization and growth of Israel, primarily after World War II. Echtman was interested economic development and trade between Israel and the international community. Many of the papers are in foreign languages including Hebrew, German, Polish, Yiddish, and French.

Biographical / Historical

Edward I.S. Echtman was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1899. He attended Technical College in Warsaw and settled in Israel in 1925. He was associated with the Manufacturers Association of Palestine from 1927 to 1955. He served as Chairman of the Export Committee from 1927 to 1932, Vice-President from 1932-1943, and General Manager from 1943-1955. He served in a variety of non-profit and governmental positions while associated with the Manufacturers Association of Palestine. In 1958 he founded the Echtman Engineering Corporation, an assembly plant for fork trucks and industrial trucks.
