Account books, including a complete series of daybooks, an almost complete series of ledgers, cash books, supply and stock records of a family in Dexter, Maine, which operated a store, engaged in the wholesale feed business, and shipped produce, especially potatoes. Chiefly the records of Pulaski McCrillis and Charles Pulaski McCrillis. The store records cease with its closing in 1923, but a record of personal expenses continues to 1946.

Biographical / Historical

The store was opened May 12, 1846 by Pulaski McCrillis. George Hamilton was partner for a period but sold his interest in the store probably in 1870 to Charles Pulaski McCrillis, the son of Pulaski McCrillis. Charles Pulaski (C.P.) McCrillis (1847-1923) inherited his father's interest in the store and operated it as a sole proprietorship until his death. Mrs. Emma Etta McCrillis (1849-1928) inherited the store from her husband, C.P., in March 1923 and the family ran the business until December 1923 when it was sold. The personal expense accounts from 1923 on are those of Miss Genieve Frazier McCrillis (1877-1948), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.P. McCrillis.
