Biographical / Historical
The Wiliam Stearns & Company was a Boston firm engaged in the wholesale marketing of groceries. From 1838-1841, the partners in this firm were William Stearns, Loammi Crosby, and Prentis Richardson. In 1841, William Stearns, Prentis Richardson, and Jabez S. Ryan. In 1842, William Stearns and Jabez S. Ryan. From 1849-1855, William Stearns, Jabez S. Ryan, and James D. Hutchinson. From 1857-1860, William Stearns and James D. Hutchinson. In 1929, H. Dana Hutchinson (one of the donors of these records) was the surviving partner.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The William Stearns & Company records were received by the Business Historical Society and Baker Library as donations from Charles H. Taylor (Gift 6525) and H. Dana Hutchinson (Gifts 6372 and November 1938).
