The Turners Falls Lumber Company records include administrative material, financial records and letter books pertaining to the firms business operations and lumber holdings in New Hampshire and Vermont. The financial records include account books, ledgers and actual log accounts. There is also material related to the lumber company's subsidiary, the New England Fibre Company. Also included are thirty-nine black and white images of mill buildings, company structures, dams and the Connecticut River.

Historical Note:

The Turners Falls Lumber Company of Turners Falls, Massachusetts, was the oldest lumber concern in New England. The firm's first drive of spruce logs down the rivers of New England occurred in 1869. William Ogilive Comstock served as treasurer of the lumber company from 1872. His two sons William Ogilive Comstock Jr. and Thomas Lamb Comstock were also working for the firm. Thomas became employed by the lumber company after graduating from Amherst College in 1883 and became director and treasurer in 1887.
