Scope and Contents
Letter book kept from January 1, 1836 to November 17, 1837 by Boston, Massachsuetts based shoe wholesaler Samuel Bigelow. Some of the letters were signed by N.P. Hunt or W. George Odiorne, Jr. The office was at 19 Broad St.; customers and suppliers were both local and from such places as Louisville, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City. Payment for leather was often in shoes. The letters contain information related to the shipment of shoes, price of leather, requests for bills and invoices, and confirmation of orders received.

Samuel Bigelow was owner of a shoe wholesale business located in Boston, Mass. His firm specialized in a wide variety of children's, women's, and men's shoes and other footwear. He was also engaged for sometime in a partnership with George Livermore in the firm Bigelow & Livermore.
