Scope and Contents
Ledger kept between 1835 and 1849 by Arlington, Massachusetts blacksmith Abner Palmer Wyman and later his apprentice William Thorning Wood. Entries include purchases for nail sets, horse and oxen shoes, hinges, repairs to ice harvesting equipment, and making ice tongs and hooks.

Abner Palmer Wyman was born and raised in Arlington, Massachusetts. He was a blacksmith by trade repairing and making ice harvesting tools for the local ice industry. In 1841, he employed apprentice William Thorning Wood. Wood purchased the business from Wyman in 1845 and built up the firms national repuation for manufacturing ice harvesting tools. Wyman retired to a life of farming and died in 1884. Wood died in 1871, but the business continued under the direction of his son until 1905 when it merged with another company.
