Scope and Contents
Records of the law office of Shattuck and Chandler. The records document the civil suits and railroad cases the office handled. Materials are primarily loose bound legal dockets filed by the name of the plaintiff. The individual packets include a variety of documents such as letters, bills, and receipts and legal documents such as deeds, petitions, depositions, notices, briefs, wills, and powers of attorney. Other materials include railroad cases filed by name of the railroad, miscellaneous cases, and personal and family matters. Carton 3 also contains materials in folders related to legal fees, receipts and expenses, contracts for houses for Peleg Chandler, several legal cases, and miscellaneous correspondence with the law office.
