Jonathan Abbott Lane was a Boston merchant who founded and eventually became the president of Allen-Lane Company. He was active in a variety of business associations and religious societies and served as a member of both the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1863-1864) and the Senate (1874-1875). He died in 1898 and is buried in the Lane family plot in Bedford, Massachusetts.
