Series III: Samuel Sturgis, 1738-1785

Scope and Contents

Contains ships' papers, receipts, memoranda, bills, accounts, orders to pay, and estate papers of Samuel Sturgis, Jr., dated 1738-1785. There are additionally some estate records of his father Samuel Sturgis, Sr. (1665-1737), and in some cases, these appear to be mixed in with the son's estate papers. Vessels named include sloops Polly (or Polley) [whaling], Certain Polly, Prosperity, Friends Delight [whaling], Abigail [whaling], Endeavor [whaling], Phenix [whaling], Two Elizabeths; and schooners Barnstable [whaling], Mehitable, and Friendship [whaling].
