Volume 2, 1798 Digital
Scope and Contents
Contains obligations to pay duties on goods to the United States government signed by Israel Thorndike, promissory notes, and bills for tuition for Israel, Jr., dated 1798. Included are invoices of Anna Thorndike from Rebecca Bowles for groceries, and a bill from Eliza Champney for instructing Betsey Roundy, possibly the daughter of Nehemiah Roundy, who worked as a shipmaster for Thorndike. There is also a bill from Salem shipwright Enos Briggs (1746-1819) for $300 for "the vessel I am about to build for you," most likely referring to the ship Cyrus, which launched in June 1800.
