Scope and Contents
Contains correspondence, and household accounts of Israel Thorndike, dated 1797-1799. Letters relate to trade, shipping, and accounts current with merchants in Amsterdam, the capture and condemnation of the Hope and her cargo of coffee by an English privateer in Jamaica, and the completion of work by a tradesman on one of Thorndike's ships. There are also orders to Thorndike for items like Russian duck and gun powder, and several requests for payment of sailors' wages directly to their wives.
