Volume 1, 1796-1800 Digital
Scope and Contents
Contains receipts, promissory notes, and accounts of Israel and Anna Thorndike, dated 1796-1800. The records show payment for wages of day laborers, and purchase of household and personal items. Anna Thorndike bought eggs, calico, ribbon, a tea pot, and spices from Mary Campbell, who also made her a muff. Other items she bought from merchants include lace, gloves, and Moroccan slippers. There are also bills for Israel, Jr.'s tuition and board, such as an invoice to Thorndike from Joshua Abbot of Billerica, Massachusetts, for board, making a pair of shoes, and "nursing and providing for Israel in his sickness." In addition, there is an account from Moses Brown for the repairs of the wharf and stores of Brown & Thorndike.
