Scope and Contents
Contains correspondence, invoices, and legal documents of Brown & Thorndike, dated 1793-1794, regarding the grounding of the ship Sally in Cape St. Francis, and the capture and condemnation of George Dodge's and Israel Thorndike's cargo and schooner Three Brothers by English privateers in St. Lucia. Correspondence from the ship's captain, William Abbott, describes the capture and plans to reacquire the Three Brothers and return to the United States with cargo including molasses and rum. He also reports a French blockade of Martinique prevented him from trading there. There is a copy of a declaration and protest taken by the British Royal Notary related to capture of the Three Brothers and an account of her cargo including fish, oil, soap, candles, and flour.
