John Burleigh stores book no. 4, 1766-1798 Digital

Scope and Contents

Volume of general store sales of John Burleigh, and accounts of his estate, dated 1766-1798. Commodities he traded included West Indies and British goods, often paid by day labor, work on Jacob Sheafe's ships, or provision of lumber and farm produce. Names in the volume include Isaiah Brookes of Kittery, who bought tobacco, rum, sugar, and boards by work by Noah Paul, and rum "which you refused to pay for"; Thomas Bennet purchased dry goods including buckram made by Dinah in 1767; John Neeley of Nottingham traded one-eighth of the iron work of the Old Mill at Great Falls, and a day of work by himself, for rum tobacco, molasses, and salt; and Elizabeth Hall bought cotton, nails, and glass, in exchange for pork.
