George Frost, Sr., and George Frost, Jr., ledger, 1745-1807 Digital
Scope and Contents
Ledger kept by George Frost, Sr., and George Frost, Jr., dated 1745-1807, of shipping and general store sales. Includes accounts with Captain Nathaniel Allen of Boston and his brother Joseph Frost of New Castle related to voyages of the schooner Flying Fish from Boston to Newfoundland and Antigua in 1745-1746 and the ship's owners, for Frost, Sr.'s expenses in Antigua, disbursements, and customs duties. There are also accounts to Boston merchant John Dixwell (1718-1749), Newfoundland merchants William Keen and Michael Ballard, and a number of "single" women, Polley Kinneston, Dorothy Hardy, Sally Brown, Lydia Brown, and Polly Piper of Northwood, Naby Dam of Barnstable, and Betsey Rand of Pittsfield. They mostly purchased dry goods, sometimes with barter of labor at the Frost home. The cover of the volume contains memoranda of notes delivered and references to land owned by Frost, Sr., in Saco Plantation in Little Falls, Maine (then Massachusetts), and Chichester.
