Scope and Contents
Macy's interview - Mr. Jack Straus - Chairman of the board Tape is divided into two parts: Personal Questions and Functional/Topical Types of Order. Personal Questions (1:18): Jack Straus' grandparents opened Macy's and he began working there on a training squad in 1921. In the interview he discusses his history in moving from training squad to general manager to merchandising manager to president and finally to chairman. Much of the discussion focuses on his developments and expansions of Macy's and his priorities of "maintaining Macy's image of integrity" and their development of various stores. Functional/Topical Types of Order: The interview moves into discussing Macy's hires, specifically the relationship to Harvard Business School or Stanford's School of Business. Straus also discusses his employees and fellow executives, his family's relationship to Macy's and ways other businesses could learn from Macy's style of business and structure.
