Scope and Contents
Ephraim Freedman interview. Freedman was the creator of the Bureau of Standards at Macy's in New York City. In this interview he discusses his background as a chemist, his move to establishing a testing laboratory in Macy's for textiles, initially testing wool, and finally his goals of educating consumers for idea department store shopping. Freedman discusses his methods of devising standards through value and cost and the authority of the Bureau over advertising agencies, buyers, and quality control.
