Scope and Contents

William Titon interview, retaped Side One: Starts with how Titon came to Macy's in NYC in the late 1890s and his evolution in the company moving up to the positions of Buyer and Taster. Discussions include international imports: coffee, liquor, and wine. Continues to discuss the creation of the passover department into purchasing produce and tea in bulk. Ends with Titon's movement into the role of a taster. Side 2: Titon tells the store of how he became the taster and its importance in advertisements. Discussion continues into the development and expansion of Macy's in the 1940s and 50s and the changes to grocery departments in department stores. Finally, Titon discusses the changes to Macy's, his experience with the loyalty, integrity, generosity, and honesty of the corporation.
