Scope and Contents

Contains accounts and legal documents related to the iron works and its lawsuit against John Gifford, and Gifford's counter suit, dated 1654-1660. Includes attachments on goods of Gifford, who was imprisoned when he was unable to meet his bond requirements; depositions and testimony regarding land owned by the iron works, accounts with clerk William Aubrey, company debt, and unpaid wages; copy of a jury verdict related to debts owed by the iron works; and a 1655 statement of iron works accounts by John Gifford. Also contains a petition for release from prison by Gifford to Joseph Dudley (1647-1720; Harvard AB 1665), president of the council of New England, in 1686.
