Scope and Contents
Contains an inventory of stock and tools at the iron works, accounts of disbursements and other expenses related to running the iron works, and records pertaining to the lawsuit between the Undertakers of the Iron Works and John Gifford, dated 1653-1655. Includes attachments on Gifford's goods, and depositions and testimony of John Forsyth, John Clarke, and Samuel Bennett. There are also inventories of property of the Undertakers of the Iron Works. One account explains how much would be saved by using Scottish indentured workers for skilled labor, such as John Clarke, who was trained as a blacksmith; other positions mentioned include a hammerman, carpenters, and colliers. Also includes a letter from John Becx to the creditors of the iron works, dated 1654-1655, discusses the company's outstanding debts and his proposal for profit sharing.
