Scope and Contents
Contains receipts, bills, invoices, and accounts for commodities traded by Samuel Coates, including gin, cotton, tea, and bread. There is also an inventory of the ship Sally, docked at a wharf owned by the firm Sweetman & Rudolph in Philadelphia and an accounting of business transactions with Coates and Randolph over many years. There are also bills for books bought at auction by Coates, an account of Samuel Coates with the estate of Joseph Saunders, and for boarding, medical care, transportation, and shoes for Coates' wards, Mary and Hannah Vicary.
