Biography

Thomas Foster Wheeldon (1892-1976) was born to John James Wheeldon (1861-1951) and Christine N. Leach Wheeldon (1869-1924). He was an orthopedic surgeon in Richmond, Virginia. He was the president of the Middle Atlantic Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society from 1951-1983. He married Gladys Jenkins (1912-2007) and they had a daughter, Elizabeth Wheeldon Wilton (1943-2007). He is buried with his wife in the Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia.

Typescript letter with handwritten signature from Thomas Wheeldon to Mildred Bliss tells her the anticipation of an afternoon at Dumbarton Oaks was extremely pleasant, but he did not know they would have the extreme pleasure to have had her personal attention. The afternoon was memorable and will never be forgotten.
