Biography

S.R. (Solomon Reuben) Shapiro was born August 30, 1911 in New York. He received a Sc.B. from New York University in 1933 and M.A. from Columbia University in 1934. He studied bibliography at the University of London from 1934-1935. He was president of S.R. Shapiro Co., Books for Libraries, 1935-1990? and editor in chief, U.S. Cumulative Book Auctions Records, 1945-1951. He published A check-list of the rarest and most valuable Bruce Rogers imprints in 1956. He married Lilian Mona Misrock in 1940. He died in New York on October 30, 1990.

Typescript letter with handwritten signature from S.R. Shapiro [Solomon Reuben] to Mildred Bliss thanking her for inviting the Junketeers, a New York group of writers, artists, typographers, calligraphers, and publishers, to the Dumbaton Oaks Library on Sunday, May 22. He reports receiving Mr. [John] Thacher's telegram telling him of this courtesy and he wants to thank her for her graciousness. He thinks the Junketeers will find their visit to Dumbarton Oaks Library a memorable one.
