Biography

Emily Sears Lodge Clark (1905-1992) was born to Henry Francis Sears and Jean Irvine Struthers in Beverly, Massachusetts. She married Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., a journalist, Republican Senator from Massachusetts, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, U. S. Ambassador to Vietnam, U. S. Ambassador to Germany, and Personal Representative of the President (Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter) to the Holy See. She had two sons with him, Henry Cabot Lodge and George Lodge. Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. died in 1985. In 1987 she married Forrester A. Clark, a retired investment banker.

Scope and Contents: Handwritten letter from Emily [Emily Esther Sears] Lodge [Mrs. Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr.] to Mildred Bliss thanks her "a thousand times for a perfect Easter afternoon". She shall never forget that hillside covered with forsythia, and the stream with those beautiful willows, pale yellowish green, and then the primulas.
