Biography

Miss Mary McDermott Beirne was born on July 2, 1884 in Virginia. She lived in Ashland and Richmond, Virginia. She is well known in many circles as an authority on growing, hybridizing, displaying and selling daffodils in the first half of the twentieth century. She imported bulbs from British growers, and is credited with developing the first significant links between the United States and the well-known English and Irish daffodil breeders. She was a commercial grower of daffodils, and issued a catalog, and received and filled orders.
